The Hamptons’ $48 Million Private Retreat

An oceanfront home in Montauk, New York is considered to be one of the most desired properties in the Hamptons. It is the perfect place to allow for privacy while enjoying the $48 million home that has recently hit the market. The oceanfront property overlooks the sandy beaches that offer no public access for miles. The property is offered by Christie’s International Real Estate for $48 million and includes over 36 acres of private land with an unobstructed view of breath-taking sunrises and sunsets.

The Montauk estate was originally bought in 1992 for $620,000 and has been sporadically listed for sale since that time. The original owners were Eli and Barbara Wilner. The two were living in East Hampton and Wilner has said he was “perfectly happy” with his home saying, “We had a nice house, a lot of privacy. And then friends of ours wanted to go out to visit Montauk.” While there, they came across the estate and Wilner told Business Insider, “We were amazingly lucky. We found it by chance, I enjoyed the whole process.”

The couple has since sold the home so that they could move back to Florida in order to be closer to their family. Since then, it was on the market for $35 million in 2008, and again for $50 million in 2010. The price was then bumped to $55 million in 2016, according to property records, before being offered at its current price by Christie’s International Real Estate.

The 7,000 square-foot residence has five spacious bedrooms, four bathrooms, a movie theater, elevator, and triangular skylights. The oceanfront site is said to be one of the most private properties in the Hamptons, featuring wooded hills and nature paths that lead through a private reserve to private ocean beaches with views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The home also offers a Japanese-style tile roof and four gas fireplaces. It is equipped with a 15-zone radiant heater that includes the garage, six separate central air zones with a dehumidification system, an automatic generator, and is even steel-reinforced to withstand 150-mile winds. Showcased throughout the home are Honduran mahogany, Norwegian quartz countertops, Italian Carerra marble, and other luxurious materials that punctuate the sleek, ultra-modern design.

A gated driveway adds to the privacy of the home as it meanders through the scenic reserve that leads to the residence. The property also includes a two-acre secluded pond, which is surrounded by beautiful gardens and scenic pastures that form an ideal habitat for local flora and fauna. Additionally, there are two naturally-formed 100’ jetties that act as natural storm barriers at the ocean’s edge.

The oceanfront property, which is considered to be one of the most private retreats in the Hamptons, offers a lifestyle of tranquility and privacy within the luxurious estate. The residence is located close to a variety of businesses including  4-star restaurants, high-end shopping, champion golf courses, wineries, horseback riding facilities, surfing, boating, deep sea fishing, and numerous cultural events. Another bonus is that the residence is located close to the private Montauk airport.

Montauk is home to many celebrities and is a popular summer and weekend destination for the rich and famous. It has been said that the lifestyle in Montauk “feels like you are living on the edge of the world and at the same time close to the center of the universe.” The home is being represented by Kathleen Coumou of Christie’s International Real Estate.
