In April, 2008, Crystal Snow received a citation for a car accident in which her five children were not in car seats or restrained. In August, she got into a fight with a former boyfriend, grabbed a knife and stabbed him in full view of her children. In October, she ran a stop sign and slid under a tractor trailer, killing her boyfriend and her four year old son. Snow and her remaining four children were taken to the hospital where they are now in stable condition. Charges will be filed against Snow when she is released from the hospital.
The Department of Children’s Services (DCS) were called many times by friends, neighbors and family who were concerned about Snow’s parenting skills begging for help. DCS’s response to the first accident was that “improper child restraint is not necessarily neglect.” When Snow was charged with aggravated assault in front of the children, DCS reported that they were working with Snow on her parenting skills. When her son died in the most recent accident, DCS stated that they “have not made a decision” about what they will do with Snow’s remaining four children if and when they recover.
Hello? What will it take to prevent Crystal Snow from endangering her children to the point where she has none?
