Three of Burt Reynolds’ remaining movie tribute vehicles from his collection will be present during the Barrett Jackson Las Vegas Auction at Mandalay Bay. The event will begin tomorrow and Reynolds had begun prepping the cars for sale months before his recent passing. Although these cars are not the actual movie vehicles (since many cars don’t survive through movie stunts) they are nearly perfect recreations that Reynolds built and then possessed for quite some time.
Burt Reynolds played the leading roles in many box office hits including The Longest Yard, The Cannonball Run and his best known role Smokey and the Bandit. He even recreated the 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit, which will be present at the Barrett Jackson Las Vegas Auction. Reynolds installed a better air-conditioning system during the build process and a custom-built 200-4R automatic transmission.
The second car is a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula that replicates the car from “Hooper.” The tribute car contains a 403 cubic-inch V8 connected to a 3-speed automatic transmission.
The third and final tribute car that Barrett-Jackson is offering is the 1987 Chevrolet R30 Pickup “Cannonball Run” that replicates the Indy Hauler pace truck made famous by Reynolds and co-star Hal Needham in the 1981 movie “Cannonball Run.” This replica features a 496 cubic inch V8 engine with FiTech fuel injection and 4L80E automatic transmission. Reynolds upgraded the truck with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.
The Barrett Jackson Las Vegas Auction will be held on September 29 through October 1 at Mandalay Bay. Attendance for the event is already completely sold out.
