Pharr, Texas– The arrest of a man came when a 9-year-old girl turned in a letter to her school, asking Santa to make a man stop touching her as well as her little sister. Andres Cantu, 55, was arrested and placed on a $350,000 bond.
The story unfolded when the little girl turned in a wish list to Santa Claus for her assignment at Cesar Chavez Elementary School. The letter asked Santa to keep Cantu, a relative of the young girls, to stop touching her and her sister. The teacher turned the letter into the counselor, who turned it over to police. After interviewing the young girl, it was learned that the sexual abuse would happen late at night, when Cantu would fondle and touch the girls when the household went to sleep. The abuse lasted possible four or more years.
Cantu is being held under the Texas law called Jessica’s Law, which gives out harsher sentences for those who victimize juveniles under 12. He faces a possible sentence of 25 to 99 years in jail.
Cantu recently held a job at a nearby school as a computer laboratory aide. The mother has stated that she was not aware of the abuse occurring.
