When did you get into DJing/music production?
First off thank you very much. I appreciate the opportunity to share a little bit about my past, who I am and what my business is all about. I started DJing right after high school, while attending a music production course in Los Angeles.
What or who were your early passions and influences?
90s hip-hop and 90s dance music definitely made an impact in my life. I also grew up listening to a lot of Latin music. My parents are from Cuba and Mexico, which helped open myself up to international music.
How do you find your inspiration?
I was pretty much broke living in Los Angeles for many years. I finally got a job at Universal Music Groups’ music channel, where I got fired because my bosses nephew wanted my job. The inspiration to build my own company became a real thought and that is when I started pursuing in building a company that focuses on music production & publishing. It was the biggest lesson in my life.
Tell me more about your business and what’s next.
My company is Moonavista Music, currently in Las Vegas. We are a Grammy award winning, platinum selling, music production house. We have worked on projects such as Fast & Furious (The Fate Of The Furious), Tomb Raider Movie, Power Rangers Movie, Ride Along 2, Night School, Despicable Me 3, 22 Jump Street, as well as international artists such as Pitbull, Maroon 5, J Balvin, LMFAO, Britney Spears, Will I AM, Big Bang, Exile (Japan) just to name a few. We also work with big Real Estate firms providing original music for high end listings. We get tons of request for that actually.
Do you have original music that is available online?
We just started putting up more original pop tracks online. You can go to
Youtube.com/officialrickyluna. I also have music on all music digital platforms. Search for DJ Ricky Luna. Spotify and Apple Music are probably the best options.
If you could be eternally stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?
I think right now is the best time to be in the music business. It’s like the wild west; anything goes, anything can happen and anyone can be a star.
What have you learned since you started out as a DJ?
I pretty much look at myself as more of a music producer operating a music company, rather than a DJ. I’m constantly learning every day. There’s always a new law or a new trend. I have to be able to keep up and make sure I have access to all the tools to keep my business ahead of the game.
When did you find an interest in acting? What or who were your early passions and influences?
I tried acting when I first moved to Los Angeles when I was young. I did it to pay the bills, but it didn’t go too far. LOL. I was tired of just playing the “gangster,” “the gardener” and “the dreamer” roles. It definitely is not for me.
Where can we contact you?
Any plans or events in Las Vegas?
I definitely want to expand my business and provide more services to the community. I am looking for partners to build a facility where we can record and produce more content for film TV and artists around the world.
