Mac Miller passed away of an apparent drug overdose, according to Law enforcement sources. Mac was found Friday around noon at his San Fernando Valley home and was pronounced dead at the scene. TMZ reported authorities were alerted by a male friend who placed a 911 call from Mac’s home.

Miller battled with substance abuse issues for years and became more of a battle after his breakup with Ariana Grande. The two dated for two years and Ariana mentioned his substance abuse was a real deal breaker for their relationship.

After the breakup, Mac wrecked his G-wagon by wrapping it around a utility pole back in May of 2018. He was arrested for DUI and hit and run. Mac fled the scene after crashing the car but later confessed to law enforcement. It was later revealed that he blew two times the legal limit.

After the arrest, Ariana Grande tweeted, “Pls take care of yourself” clearly worried about Mac’s substance abuse. Many blamed her for Mac’s DUI and she responded to the criticism by saying: “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be.  I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years.”  She added, “Of course I didn’t share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was.”

Mac also made several references in his music on the subject of drug use and premature death. On Thursday night Mac posted a video of a record player with his song “So it Goes” playing in the background. The lyrics included, “Nine lives, never, die, f*** a heaven, I’m still gettin’ high.”

In “Stopped Making Excuses” with Fader in 2016, Mac talked about fame and how it affected his drug use. He says, “I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess who can’t even get out of his house. Overdosing is just not cool. You don’t go down history bc you overdose. You just die”

A profile of Mac was published Thursday by Vulture, in which Mac mentioned he has enormous pressure growing up in the public eye. He said,  “A lot of times in my life I’ve put this pressure to hold myself to the standard of whatever I thought I was supposed to be, or how I was supposed to be perceived. And it creates pressure.”
