Hypoallergenic Cats as a Pet

Hypoallergenic cats have been around since 2006 and there are now a wide range of breeds to choose from. Hypoallergenic cats are not cheap and can range in price from $7,950 to $37,000 if bought from Lifestyle Pets. However, these cats are perfect pets for those who suffer from feline allergies. It is important to remember that a hypoallergenic cat is only less likely to produce an allergic reaction and one of these cats can still cause severe allergic reactions. No breed has actually been scientifically proven to be hypoallergenic.

Cats are easily one of the easiest pets to care for. They don’t need walking and can often be left alone for days at a time without worry or incident. Cats are also more affectionate, than say, a tank of fish. For some people a cat is an ideal pet but for feline allergy sufferers that just hasn’t been a possibility, until now.

An allergic reaction to a cat can be devastating. Cat allergy can usually effect the eyes, nose, ears, lungs, throat and skin. Eyes usually become red, swollen, itchy and watery. The nose will run and itch. Ears may become plugged or itchy. The throat can become itchy or horse. Symptoms of the lung include coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and frequent bronchitis. The skin may become itchy and may develop rashes or hives. It can become torture for the sufferer.

Some breeds of cat including hairless and Siberian felines have been promoted as having less allergen than others. This theory has been tested by scientests and the results have shown that all cats regarless of breed will produce the Fel D1 that causes an allergic reaction in humans. These breeds just produce a significantly smaller amount of it. However, keep in mind that the cats offered from lifestyle pets that are also labeled as hypoallergenic still continue to produce Fel D1 but again they produce a different molecular weight that is said not to trigger allergies in the same way as a normal Fel D1 does.

Hypoallergenic cats that are produced by Lifestyle pets are said to be very sweet, affectionate and loving. Depending on the breed of hypoallergenic cat selected they can way anywhere in between 6 and 30 pounds.

The Ashera Exotic cat from Lifestyle Pets is actually one of the most beautiful cats I’ve ever seen and comes in a standard version and a hypoallergenic version. There are also two extremely rare versions: snow Ahsera and Royal Ashera. The snow Ahsera comes in white instead of brown/caramel with black stripes and the Royal Ashera is also white but with orange stripes. The price tag for this gorgeous cat? $22,000 to $125,000.

Hypoallergenic cats are extremely expensive and not likely to be purchased by anyone other than the super wealthy. Some of the breeds that have been claimed to be hypoallergenic include the Siberian, Russian Blue, LaPerm, Sphynx, Devon Rex and Cornish Rex. Felix Pets, LLC also claims to be inventing a hypoallergenic cat.
