It’s no secret. Breakfast often tastes like dessert. And there’s a new way to feed your cravings for something sweet featuring an iconic cereal brand.
Froot Loops is now being made into doughnuts. You can buy them at Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. The fast food menu item hit stores Wednesday and has already become a huge hit on social media. Fans say the baked goods taste just like the popular Kellogg’s brand cereal.
“They smell and taste EXACTLY like real Froot Loops,” said Madison Flager, who wrote about them for food site Delish.com. “It’s kind of insane.”
“My elementary-school self would’ve gobbled all of these down in like two seconds,” said BuzzFeed Editor Crystal Ro following a taste test. “But, as an adult who is constantly having teeth problems… I had to stop myself after one.”
The vibrant mini-pastries come in packages of five — in colors of red, yellow, purple, green and blue — for a retail price of $1.99. However, if you want to try them out for yourself, don’t wait around. The doughnuts are only available for a limited time, according to the chains’ parent company the chains’ parent company CKE Restaurants, although no cut-off date has been announced.
It’s been a busy year for the Fruit Loops brand. Just a few months ago, Kellogg’s revealed the first new Froot Loops flavor in 10 years, giving the traditional fruit flavor a wild berry twist.
Froot Loops has made its way into fast food products before. Burger King teamed up with Kellogg’s for a limited-edition Froot Loops milkshake back in 2017 , blending vanilla soft serve and cereal pieces. At the moment, Steak ‘n Shake has its own version of a Froot Loops specialty milkshake.
If sales prove to be strong, Froot Loops doughnuts could be brought back on a regular basis, like the sporadic McRib or seasonal Shamrock Shake at McDonald’s. However, those who’ve already enjoyed a taste of the new doughnuts have just one request: make them a little bigger the next time around.
