Halloween is about cheesy frights, booze-filled parties, the very best costumes and tasty candy. However, in Mexico it’s all about Día de los Muertos, which is joyous and honors one’s ancestors, while also reminding those of the inevitability of death to better appreciate life. In celebration of the holiday, Chopard created the one-of-a-kind L.U.C Perpetual T Spirit of “La Santa Muerte.”

The new Día de los Muertos inspired-watch will debut for the first time at the Salón Internacional Alta Relojería watch show in Mexico, held from October 16 to 18. While the watch is extremely detailed, the dial will be the first thing to catch your eye. The dial displays a stylized  Calavera skull over its hand-guilloched 18-karat-gold dial – slightly resembling in style to Fiona Kruger and her line of skull watches. The black varnished skull is beautifully decorated with floral and sun-themed patterns, while its gap-toothed rictus is made from mother-of-pearl.The creativity displayed through the tourbillion is marvelous, as the tourbillon bridge serves as a mustache for the skeleton, while allowing views of the mechanism below.

In addition to the well thought out tourbillon, the  L.U.C 02.15L caliber powering the watch is equipped with a perpetual calendar (as you might have noticed from its name), with subdials that act as the skull’s eyes and a lengthy nine-day power reserve, courtesy of its four barrels. It even went through COSC testing to confirm it meets the official standards of a chronometer – further meaning it keeps precise, accurate time.
