Tyrell Marquis McDaniel was charged with the murder of his one-year-old baby boy, Malachi Brewster. He is charged with first-degree murder as well as many counts of child abuse. The murder occurred when McDaniel was 17, and he will stand trial as an adult.
McDaniel took the baby at times for overnight stays. Early in the morning of Tuesday, February 12th, a friend of the teenager called the police to report that the baby was not breathing. At about 2:00 am officers arrived on the scene, talking notice of bruises on both the baby’s forehead and chest. Malachi was suffering from bleeding from the brain and put on life support, but died within 24 hours.
Although McDaniel stated that the baby had fallen and hit his head on a nearby vase, doctors diagnosed the death as “shaken impact injury”. McDaniel admitted to anger problems and said that he had taken drugs within hours on the attack, mostly marijuana.
McDaniel was arrested and was placed in the Maricopa County Jail. The mother has not been identified by the media. He was released on bond, but soon after assaulted and robbed a 66-year-old man in the street with the aide of a friend, and was again arrested. He is now back in jail awaiting two counts of murder, as they left the man to die in the street.
