Tyler Hines, 20, from St. Albans, VT was charged with the rape of a 3-year-old female. Hines stated the rape resulted from a “sick idea” he had. According to Hines, the little girl got into the shower with him and he proceeded to assault her sexually. He also states it was “brief.”
The girl’s mother took her to the doctor on Friday to have her examined, and the doctor informed the authorities of the rape. Hines was brought to the station to be questioned and first told police that he had to have slipped as he was changing the girl’s diaper. This excuse was seen through immediately, since the girl has been potty-trained.
Hines finally confessed to the crime of assaulting the girl, stating that while he did it for about two seconds, he was thinking that he couldn’t believe he was doing it. Later, he stated that he assaulted the child for 5-10 seconds, and then realized that what he was doing was wrong. Police statements regarding the attack state that the incident was isolated, with no pattern of precious abuse.
Hines pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned on Tuesday. He is being held without bail until a hearing on December 26. The felony charge of aggravated sexual assault on a person under the age of 10 can carry a maximum sentence of 10 years to life.
