FOUNTAIN, CO — Nikita Weis, 18, wanted Sophia Nicole Alsept, 21, to get breast implants. Due to lack of funds however, the desire could not be manifested immediately; instead, Weis came up with the idea of hiring two hitmen to murder his mother so that he could gain possession of her vehicle as well as the funds in her bank account. On September 25, 2008, Weis was at the home belonging to his mother on Yampa River Heights. While his mother prepared Weis’ dinner, a male dressed in black entered into the home and proceeded to beat Hyun Weis, 44, in the head with wooden baseball bats. Hyun pushed the panic button of her vehicle which frightened her attacker long enough for her to escape and call 911 from a neighbor’s home.
The attackers, Brandon Michael Soroka, 19, and Juan Antonio Velez, 18, were hired by Nikita for the sum of seven grand to kill Nikita’s mother. Investigation revealed that the attempt to kill Hyun was attempted the night prior to the attack as well, but it fell through when Hyun did not respond to the knock on the door. While Hyun was attacked, Brandon Soroka and Sophia Alsept hid outside of Hyun’s home; upon the failure of the attack, everyone fled the scene. Nikita and Sophia lied to police and said they were kidnapped at gunpoint by the attackers. Police did not believe them, and Soroka, Velez, Alsept, and Nikita Weis were charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree. All were held on $50,000 bond each.
