A 21-year-old man admitted to raping a young girl at a wedding reception dance, says the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. The man, Luis Macedo, was at a community center in Beryl, in southern Utah, for a relative’s wedding on Saturday, November 22, 2008, when he asked a young girl to dance. Police say that he then coaxed the girl outside and onto neighboring property where he then allegedly raped her twice. The girl is under the age of 13, but police declined to say exactly how old she was.
Macedo then left her and returned to the party of about 200, apparently not considering the possibility of the girl returning as well and telling. The girl did return, found her mother, and told her what happened, whereupon the mother sought out Mecedo and punched him in the face. He fled the scene, and police were called. Macedo was arrested shortly after and has reportedly confessed to the crime. He faces two counts of first-degree felony for child rape, one count of first-degree felony for child kidnapping, and one count for sodomy, according to the sheriff’s office. If convicted, Macedo could face a sentence of five years up to life in prison. The girl’s mother was not charged for attacking Macedo.
