Kimberly Kelly, a 30-year-old woman, has been charged with the death of her 15-week-old son Nathan Eric Wisniewski. The infant was pronounced dead after emergency responders arrived at Kelly’s home and found that his body had become stiff from rigor mortis. Kelly’s boyfriend, Kent Kreishner, called police to their home with the report that the baby was not breathing. According to the autopsy report, baby Wisniewski had been dead for several hours when emergency responders received the call.
Kelly had allegedly been drinking that evening with her boyfriend and their roommate. The men left for a bar later without Kelly, but returned at about 11 p.m. Then, early the next morning, Kelly drunk dialed Keith Wisniewski and told him that she had had a premature baby some four years earlier, and that the baby had died of a ruptured intestine. She told Keith, “with no fault of mine, if Nathan died tonight, you don’t know what it would feel like.” She further told him that he didn’t know what it was like to lose a child. Keith Wisniewski managed to convince Kelly to take Nathan to his place, a few blocks away, but Kelly did not show up.
The autopsy showed that Nathan had been face down in his bassinet and had been apparently shoved into the mattress, leading to his suffocation. Kelly is charged with murder, neglect of a dependent, and battery, and the case of her previous child’s death is being reopened as a possible murder as well. She is being held at the Lake County Jail, without any bond.
