iPhone Bliss

Michael volunteered (for $100) to wait in line today for the iPhone. I was at the only store in over 100 miles to have the phone, so I wanted to make sure they didn’t sell out. I was the 12th person to get the phone.

As most everyone knows, I’m already a huge Apple fan. I am proud to say I don’t run any Microsoft products. I don’t even have Office on my machine (I use NeoOffice), nor does Michael own an Xbox (he has a used one from his cousin, but no 360).

After spending a short amount of time with the iPhone, I am already more impressed than I thought possible. The main thing I’m impressed with is how simple activation was. You just plug the dock into a USB port, select 3 – 4 very simple radio buttons, and you’re done. The phone sync’d my iCal, Address Book, and even brought over my Mail settings. I create a quick playlist in iTunes and album in iPhoto and added those the sync. I was done within a couple minutes. I grabbed my phone out the dock and got to see my new mail.

Everything runs just like the commercial. It was even very easy to sync with my Bluetooth headset.

I do have one complaint. Why the hell did they put the headphone jack so low into the phone? I know that someone there can probably come up with some fancy engineering reason, but I can’t help but feel it’s so Belkin can sell one more accessory. And even that’s not out for 2 – 3 weeks. If you can use the standard ear buds, the ones included look to be just fine. But I evidently have odd shaped ears because I could never fit those things properly. I use the Bang and Olufsen A8 earphones, which are incredible by the way.

So if you’re on the fence for an iPhone, just get one. If you have weird shaped ears like me, you may want to wait the 2 – 3 weeks so that you have the option of using a headset that actually fits.

I’m also on the fence on the Bluetooth headset. I just bought the Jawbone headset, but I’m going to watch reviews of the new Apple product. But again with the weird ear issue.
