Whenever famous filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino, is set to release a new movie; it’s a big deal. Quentin is known mainly for the eight films that he made himself, versus the ones that he has worked on with others. Some of his most famous being: ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2’, ‘Reservoir Dogs’, ‘Django Unchained’, etc. However, the buzz surrounding this movie isn’t solely related to Quentin’s talent and fame this time around.
Just after finishing the script in November, Tarantino switched production companies. Typically, Quentin released his films under Miramax, in association with Harvey Weinstein who he had collaborated with on several of his movies. Since many recent accusations have surfaced against Weinstein regarding sexual assault, and misconduct, Quentin initiated a production company movie for his upcoming film. The renowned artist is now partnering with Sony, who will produce his next project.
Uma Thurman was one to speak up against Harvey Weinstein, claiming that the producer sexually assaulted her twice; as well as “threatening to derail her career”. Uma is a long time star on Quentin Tarantino sets, which were produced under Miramax. However, Harvey was not the only one Uma had a rough experience with. Quentin has always gotten heat for his controversial films and scripts. But in Uma’s account, he placed her in a very unsafe situation on set with a faulty prop car.
Nevertheless, the production continued, and is now under way. Tarantino made it known that he had been working on this script for five years; which is bound to light excitement in fans of his work. The movie titled, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, will star Brad Pitt and and Leonardo Dicaprio. They will be playing western Hollywood stars. Leo playing Rick Dalton, a former western star, and Brad will be his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. To add to the interesting plot, their neighbor is no other than Sharon Tate. The movie takes place in a past time of Hollywood, where western movies filled the big screen. Tarantino is quoted saying, “I’m very excited to tell this story of an L.A., and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff”.
Originally, it was rumored to be a tale of the murders of Charles Manson, however, Quentin confirms that the story only takes place around the time of the events. He uses the murders as a sort of backdrop to the main story. A story of an actor, and his stunt double, who had one hit western series and are trying to find their way back in to the industry.
The film also features several big names of Hollywood, including: Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry, Damian Lewis, Emile Hirsch, Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth.
‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is set to hit theatres August 9, 2019. So, mark your calendars film fanatics; Quentin Tarantino is on his way once again.
