Walpole, MA, and Tucson, AZ — Danny Villa, 44, a former professional football player and offensive lineman for the New England Patriots has recently resigned as the football coach and athletic director at Walpole High School. Up until the 23rd of December, Villa cited his reasons for leaving the high school position as stemming from his desire to spend more time with his family and he hoped that he could return in the future at some time in 2009. On Christmas Day however Villa began revealing the true reason for his resignation when interviewed by the local press; Villa did not desire to resign, but was requested to leave the position after allegations surfaced suggesting that Villa had sexually abused a minor high school athlete.
Sources reveal that Villa had sent several sexually suggestive text messages via cell phone, and, at this time, one minor female has been identified as the victim. After the Walpole police spoke with Villa, he was given a grace period to turn himself in after Christmas, but Villa failed to show up on that date and had fled the state. Warrants were issued for Villa’s arrest, he was later found in Tucson, his hometown, and after the passage of two days time, Villa finally decided to turn himself in. Villa may face multiple counts of rape after he is transported from Tucson to Massachusetts.
